Only the daily puzzle is ranked
Every other puzzle on this site is generated fresh for you, which makes those times impossible to compare — a fast run might just be an easier grid. The daily puzzle is derived from the date, so on any given day it is the same grid for everyone in the world. That is the only fair thing to rank.
How a place is worked out
Your position is your fastest single daily puzzle of the month, not a total or an average. The table also shows how many dailies you have finished, so a regular solver is visible even when someone posts one very quick run.
The month rolls over on its own. Nothing is reset and nothing is deleted: pick an earlier month from the list to see how it finished.
Entering
Finish the daily puzzle and a short form appears under your time: a name and a country, then submit. There is no account, no email address and no password. One time per puzzle per browser, so nobody can pad the table.
What stops made-up times
A submitted time arrives with the grid you finished, and the server rebuilds that day's puzzle and checks your solution against it. A time for a puzzle that was never opened is refused, and so is an implausible one.
What no leaderboard can detect is somebody running the puzzle through a solver. Treat the top of the table as a bit of fun rather than a record book.
Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. You choose a name when you submit a time, and that is all — there is no sign-up, no email address and no password.
Which puzzles count?
Only the daily puzzle. Everyone gets the same grid on a given date, so those times can be compared fairly.
Can I submit more than once a day?
One time per daily puzzle per browser. Solving tomorrow's puzzle adds another entry, and your best one of the month is the one ranked.
How is my country chosen?
It is a dropdown you set yourself when you submit, starting from a guess based on your browser settings. You can pick any country.
Can I remove my entry?
Yes — write in through the contact page with the name and the date, and it will be deleted.
