Sudoku walkthroughs

Past daily puzzles, solved along the same path the hint button follows, with notes on the moment each one stops being easy.

How these are made

Each walkthrough takes one finished daily puzzle and solves it with the site's own solver, one move at a time. The grids on the page are the real positions from that solve: the starting grid exactly as it was served that day, and the board at the moment the puzzle asks for something more than a single.

The notes around them are written by hand. A move list on its own tells you what happened; it does not tell you why that was the position where scanning ran out, or what in the grid should have made you look there. That is the part worth reading.

How to use them

  1. Open the puzzle from the link at the top of the walkthrough and play it first. Every daily can be rebuilt from its date, so the grid is the same one everybody played.
  2. When you get stuck, come back and find the diagram for the moment you are at. The move counter in each caption tells you how far into the solve it is.
  3. Read the note under the diagram before you look at the highlighted cells. Try to find the pattern from the description alone.

We only write up puzzles once their day is over, so nothing here spoils the current daily or the leaderboard.

In the diagrams, blue cells are the pattern that makes the move and red cells are where a candidate is removed. Cell names are row then column: R5C1 is row 5, column 1.
