Privacy policy

What is stored, where it is stored, and what advertising involves. Short, because there is not much to tell.

What we store about you

Nothing, unless you choose to post a time to the leaderboard. SudokuPath has no accounts, no login and no database of players. We do not ask for your name or your email address to use any part of the site. The same goes for private leagues: nothing is stored unless you create or join one.

What your browser stores

The site saves a few things in your own browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never transmitted to us:

Your current puzzle
so a reload does not lose your progress
Times, mistakes and hints
for the summary shown when you finish
Your daily streak
the dates you have completed, kept on your device
Theme choice
light or dark, if you have chosen one
Consent choice
if advertising is active and you have answered the notice
Your leagues and your latest place
the names and codes of leagues you joined, and your place on the daily puzzle, so a shared result can include it

Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases all of it, including your streak.

The leaderboard

Submitting a time is optional and nothing is sent until you fill in the form and press the button. When you do, four things are stored on our server and shown publicly on the leaderboard: the name you typed, the country you picked, your time, and the date of the puzzle.

A random identifier generated by your browser is stored alongside them. It is not an account and is not linked to you; it exists so that one browser cannot post twenty entries for the same puzzle. We do not store your IP address with the entry.

Please do not use your full name — a first name or a nickname is the intent. If you want an entry removed, ask through the contact page with the name and date and it will be deleted.

Private leagues

Creating a league stores the name you give it and a random code. Joining one stores that code next to your browser’s random identifier, so the league’s table knows whose times to show. Anyone with the link can see the league’s table. Leaving a league deletes that link between your browser and the league. If you choose to count in your leagues only, your browser’s identifier is also added to a list that keeps your times off the public board and the Hall of Fame; submitting publicly again removes it.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising. When advertising is active, adverts are served by Google AdSense, and Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure adverts. Google's own explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services is published at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at adssettings.google.com, and control third-party advertising cookies more broadly at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.

Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

Visitors from those regions are shown a consent notice before personalised advertising cookies are used, and advertising and analytics storage stay denied until a choice is made. You can change your answer at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Analytics

If traffic measurement is enabled, it is used only to count page views and understand which pages are useful. It is never used to identify individuals, and analytics storage follows the same consent state as advertising.

Children

The site is suitable for children, and the puzzles for younger players are a deliberate part of it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect personal information at all.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
